Řevnice is situated at an elevation of 218 m in the Brdská vrchovina (Brdy Highlands) region on the right bank of the Berounka river, about 26 km soutwest of Prague. The municipality has a population of about 3,600 (2021).
The village Kostelní was mentioned first in documents of the 12th century. The curch of St. Maurice was first mentioned in 1253. In 1304 the market town was mentioned already as Hrzebnicz. Further privileges were granted in 1335 and were confirmed in 1732. When the railroad from Prague was built in 1862, Řevnice (in German: Rewnitz, older also Reunitz) became a popular summer tourist destination for the citizens of Prague, especially also due to its location in the Berounka valley close to Karlštejn castle and the Brdy Highlands area. In 1969 Řevnice obtained the status of a town.
The church of St. Maurice [left, no. 3837: left, barely visible] was first mentioned in 1253 when it was donated to the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star (Military Order of the Crusaders of the Red Star). Although the church originally served as parish church, it lost this status in the second half of the 17th century when it became filial church of the parish of Dobřichovice. The present, Baroque, church was built in 1749–1753 in place of the original, Romanesque and later Gothic church. A thorough renovation was carried out in 1904–1905; since then the church again serves as the parish church of Řevnice.
The famous tennis player Martina Navrátilová (b. 1956) spent her youth in Řevnice.
