sr: Здиков

Zdíkov (historically also Velký Zdíkov or Ždíkov; in German: Groß-Zdikau) is situated at an elevation of 732 m in the foothills of the Šumavě (Böhmerwald, Bohemian Forest) mountain region, about 24 km northwest of the district town Prachatice and about 59 km west-northwest of the regional capital, České Budějovice. The municipality includes the villages Branišov (Branschau), Hodonín (Hodonin), Masákova Lhota (Mehlhüttel or Mehlhütten), Nový Dvůr (Oberhof), Putkov (Putkau), Račov (Radeschau, Ratschau), Zdíkov (Groß Zdikau), Zdíkovec (Klein Zdikau) and Žírec (Schiretz, Schurz). It has a population of about 1,800 (2023).

The first written mention of Zdíkov dates back to 1318. After the abolition of patrimonial rule, Zdikov / Groß Zdikau formed a municipality in the Prachatice district from 1850 onwards. At the end of the 19th century the municipality had the official name Velký Ždíkov. Masákova Lhota broke away in the 1920s and formed its own municipality. After Prachatice was annexed to the German Reich in 1938 as a result of the Munich Agreement, Zdíkov remained part of Czechoslovakia and belonged to the Strakonice district. After the end of World War II the village initially returned to the Prachatice district, but in 1949 was assigned to the newly formed Vimperk district. Since its abolition in 1960 Zdíkov again is placed in the district of Prachatice. In 1964, Masákova Lhota (with Nový Dvůr), Putkov, and Račov (with Žírec) were incorporated into the municipality. Zdíkovec (with Branišov and Hodonín) wwere incorporated into Zdíkov in 1980.
