Brieske is situated at the lake Senftenberger See just outside the town of Senftenberg in southern Brandenburg. On 31 December 2001 Brieske was incorporated into the municipality of Senftenberg.
The Kolonie Marga [left], a residential complex for the mining workers
of the coal mining company 'Ilse', was founded in 1907 and completed around 1915. It was designed by the architect Georg Heinsius von Mayenburg
(1870–1930) as the first German garden-city. In 1914, Kolonie Marga already had 2500 inhabitants, whereas the old village of
Brieske only had one tenth of that number. As a sub-project of the world exposistion EXPO 2000 in Hannover, Kolonie Marga
has recently been restored.
