Blatenský vrch
• de: Plattenberg
The mountain Blatenský vrch (German: Plattenberg) (1,040 m) is located in northern West Bohemia near the border to Germany,
about 3 km northeast of Horní Blatná (formerly in German: Bergstadt Platten), but
is situated within the municipal area of Potůčky.
The glass seems to date from between 1911 and 1916, because the picture on the glass is labelled
Erzherzogin Zita Aussichtsturm.
Zita, Princess of Bourbon-Parma, married Archduke Karl of Austria in 1911 whereby she received the
title of Archduchess (Erzherzogin). Karl became the last Emperor of Austria (Karl I, King Karl IV of Hungary) in 1916.
After the end of World War I in 1918, Karl had to renounce all participation in state affairs and emigrated to Switzerland in 1919.
After two futile attempts to regain the Hungarian throne in 1921 he was interned on the island of Madeira, where he died a few months later in 1922.
Zita and her family moved to Spain, Belgium and Canada. From 1962, Zita lived in Switzerland and was allowed to re-enter Austria only in 1982.
Empress Zita died in 1989 at the age of 97 and was buried in the Imperial tombs in Vienna.
Emperor Karl is still buried in the church Nossa Senhora do Monte near Funchal on Madeira.
