The market town Rappottenstein is situated at an elevation of 671 m near the confluence of the rivers Großer Kamp and Kleiner Kamp.
The castle Rappottenstein was founded together
with the village in the 1st half of the 12th century, presumably by Rapoto
von Kuenring. Until the 16th century it was enlarged several times. The castle
keep has a height of 30 m. Rappottenstein is one of the best-preserved medieval
castles in Austria.
