Longirod is situated at an elevation of 899 m in the southern foothills of the Jura mountains in the Swiss canton Vaud, about 13 km north-northeast of the district town Nyon and about 29 km west of the canton's capital, Lausanne. As of 31 December 2023 the municipality had a population 551.
Archaeoogical finds demonstrate that the area already had been inhabited in neolithic times. The first written mention of Longirot dates from 1267. In the 13th century, Longirod was obtained by the lords of Aubonne.
The reformed parish church of Saint-Théodule [background] dates from around 1440.
The belltower was rebuilt in 1729; its roof was modified in 1766. The church was renovated in 1885 and 1932.
