Stubbenkammer is the name given to the immediate area around the striking Königsstuhl chalk cliff in the Jasmund National
Park on the island of Rügen. The few buildings in this area, including the Königsstuhl National Park Centre, form the
Stubbenkammer district of the town of Sassnitz. The name Stubbenkammer is derived from the Slavic words
stopin, which means step, and kamen, which means rock.
Glass no. 4734 is labeled Insel Rügen / Stubbenkam̅er / die Schlucht ('Rügen Island / Stubbenkammer / the gorge').
Note that the overligned character "m̅" is not part of the standard German alphabet or orthography, but overligned characters have traditionally
been used occasionally as a 'shorthand' for double consonants, so "m̅" must be read as "mm".
