Mank is situated at an elevation of 295&nbs;m on the river also called Mank in the hill country of the Mostviertel region of Lower Austria, about 13 km south of the district town Melk and about 24 km southwest of the Lower Austrian capital, Sankt Pölten. The municipality has a population of about 3,400 (2024).
Mank was first mentioned in a written document dating from 1146. In 1851, the village obtained the status of a market town. In 1987 it finally obtained the official status of a town.
The parish church of the Assumption of Our Lady [left, no. 4667:
background right] was first mentioned in 1323/1324 as a vicariate. In 1365 it was elevated to a parish
church, which until 1784 remained in the care of the collegiate monastery of Sankt Pölten. The choir of the
church dates from around 1400, the late Gothic nave and aisles date from the early 16th century. During the
Baroque period, the exterior of the church was modified in that style and the church tower was added.
