4614 Rorschach Rorschach is situated at an elevation of 471 m on the southern shore of Lake Constance, about 11 km northeast of Sankt Gallen, the cantonal capital. The municipality has a population of about 9,800 (2022).

Rorscachun was first mentioned in a written document in AD 850. In 941, the abbot of Sankt Gallen was granted the right to hold markets, mint coins and levy taxes here. In 1489/1490 the Rorschacher Klosterbruch or destruction of the abbey at Rorschach touched off the St. Gallen War. After the war, the abbot's lands were restored but also required him to stay at St. Gallen. In 1597, the monthly newspaper Annus Christi (also known as Historische relatio or Rorschacher Monatsschrift) was printed in Rorschach. It is presumably the first newspaper in the world to be published periodically and to contain the essential features of a newspaper. It was discontinued after one year — probably due to financial difficulties or a lack of reader interest (150 copies).

The view depicted on glass no. 4614 [left] shows the railway station and harbour.
