Trzebiechów (German: Trebschen) is situated at an elevation of 48 m in the Odra valley, about 19 km northeast of the voivodship's capital, Zielona Góra. The municipality has a population of about 920 (2005). Trzebiechów is also the seat of the administrative district (gmina) of the same name, which also includes the villages Borek, Gębice, Głęboka, Głuchów, Ledno, Mieszkowo, Ostrzyce, Podlegórz, Radowice, Sadowo and Swarzynice.
The place, which has probably existed since the 13th century, was owned by the Troschke family from Bohemia from the 15th to the middle of the 18th century. The town of Trebschen itself was created at the beginning of the 18th century to accommodate Protestant Silesians and Poles who were persecuted in their homeland because of their religion, and received a town charter in 1707. The city had its heyday in the 18th century as a center of cloth production. In the course of time, however, the neighbouring towns benefited more and more from this; the importance of Trebschen declined, and the village lost its status as a town in 1870. Spa facilities such as a sanatorium were built after 1900. Until 1945 the village belonged to the Prussian district of Züllichau-Schwiebus (today Sulechów and Świebodzin) in the province of Brandenburg. After World War II, the village became part of Poland. The German population was subsequently expelled and he town received the Polish name Trzebiechów.
Trzebiechów castle (German: Schloss Friedrichshuld) [left, no. 3968], originally built in Renaissance style, was remodeled in the Baroque period. Until 1945 the castle was owned by the princes Reuß-Köstritz. Today, the castle houses a primary school, a middle school and accommodation facilities.
Important members of the family born here were:
• Prince Heinrich XXIV Reuß zu Köstritz (1855–1910), who became known as a German composer.
• Princess Eleonore Reuß zu Köstritz 1860–1917), Queen of Bulgaria as consort of King
Ferdinand I.
