Pertisau is situated at an elevation of 952 m on the western shore of Achensee, Tyrol's largest lake. Pertisau has a population of about 740 (2019) and is part of the municipality of Eben am Achensee.
The oldest written mentions of the area are documents from the 14th century from the abbey of St. Georgenberg-Fiecht.
Since the 15th century, the Habsburgs, being the sovereigns of the country, until 1918 used the area for hunting and fishing.
In the mid-19th century, tourism became important for the area. Together with Maurach on the shouthern tip of the lake,
pertisau today is the touristic centre of the area.
