Lechbruck am See is situated at an elevation of 737 m on the western bank of the river Lech in the Allgäu region of Bavaria. The municipality has a population of about 2,700 (2019).
Until about 1777 there were two separate communities, Lech and Lechbruck, of which Lech (or the 'lower village') was first mentioned
in a written document in 1316, Lechbrug (the 'upper village') was first mentioned in 1398. At the time it belonged to the prince-bishopric
of Augsburg. Since 1803, when the 'Reichdeputationshauptschluss' abolished the ecclesiastical states, it belonged to the
Electorate (1806 Kingdom) of Bavaria. The modern municipality was established in 1818.
