Neftenbach is situated at an elevation of 415 m in the lower Töss valley, about 19 km northeast of Zurich, just northwest of the district town, Winterthur. The municipality of Neftenbach has a population of about 5,600 (2016).

Already in Roman times, a manor house was located at this site; during excavations in 1986 a coin box containing 1,243 Roman silver coins from the years 197–265 AD was discovered in a bronze vessel. The earliest known written document mentioning Neftimbach dates from 1209.

The reformed church [far left] was first mentioned in 1290. In 1466 it was rebuilt in Gothic style. The choir and the bottom part of the tower of this church still exist. In 1523 the Reformation was introduced in Neftenbach and the church thus became a Protestant church. The nave was rebuilt in Gothic revival style in 1842–1843.
