3417 Polná Polná is situated at an elevation of 490 m about 16 northeast of the district town Jihlava. The municipality of Polná has a population of about 5,100 (2017).

Polná was first mentioned in 1242. Located on the 'Habry route' from Prague via Havlíčkův Brod to Moravia, it soon developed into a town. In 1479 it obtained further privileges and an its coat of arms. In the 19th century, Polná was an important centre of the Czech nationalist movement and formed a counterbalance to the mostly German-speaking city of Jihlava. From 1840 to 1842, Božena Němcová, a significant Czech female writer, stayed in Polná. August 1863 was tragic for the town. A giant fire destroyed 189 houses and 456 families lost their homes. Many baroque and renaissance houses were ruined and subsequently many people moved from the city. The fact that the Austrian Northwestern Railroad was built 6 kilometers away from Polná caused another economical decline of the town. The railroad Dobronín–Polná was built only in 1903 but passenger traffic was discontinued in 1982. In 1949 Polná became part of the Havlíčkův Brod district. In 1960, after another territorial reorganization it became part of the Jihlava district.

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary [background right] was built between 1700 and 1705 by the Italian architect Domenico D'Angeli. The tower (64 m high) was built in 1714, destroyed by fire in 1863 and rebuilt in 1895.
