Gechingen is situated at an elevation of 484 m on the river Irm, 25 km southwet of Stuttgart, about halfway between Calw and Böblingen and Sindelfingen. The municipality has a population of about 3,700 (2016).
The earliest written document mentioning Gechingen is a chronicle of 1500 from the Reichenau monastery,
referring to a donation to the monastery around the year 830 of 16 villages, among them Gaichingen.
In the 15th century, the monastery of Herrenalb purchased Gechingen from the palsgraves of
Tübingen. After the introduction in 1534 of the Protestant faith and the
dissolution of the Herrenalb monastery Gechingen became part of Württemberg.
