Bernstadt auf dem Eigen (official name: Bernstadt a. d. Eigen) is situated at an elevation of 231 m in the Oberlausitz region in the city triangle Görlitz, Zittau and Löbau. The municipality has a population of about 3,400 (2015) and consists of Bernstadt auf em Eigen proper and the formerly independent municipalities of Kunnersdorf auf dem Eigen (incorporated into Bernstadt in 1957), Altbernsdorf auf dem Eigen, Buschschenkäuser, Dittersbach auf dem Eigen, Kemnitz, Lehdehäuser and Russen.
The chuch [top picture, background centre left] was built after the old
church (which had already existed in 1427) had been destroyed in 1428 during the Hussite Wars. The church tower

The manor house Niederkemnitz [bottom left picture] was built in 1898. It became a property of the municipality in 1948. Tiday, the building is used as a private house.
The manor house Oberkemnitz [bottom right picture]
was built after a fire had destroyed an older edifice in 1666. About one quarter of the building
were torn down after 1945. The remaining building served long as a chidren's home and then remained vacant.
