Bad Kreuzen is situated at an elevation of 474 m about 7 km northwest of Grein in the district Perg in Upper Austria. The municipality has a population of about 2,340 (2013).
The earliest written document that mentions Kreuzen castle (Chroucen) dates from 1147. The former municipalities of Kreuzen, Kalmberg, Dörfl and Wetzelstein,
as well as parts of Panholz, all formed originally in 1850, were merged in 1875 to become the municipality of Kreuzen. Kreuzen itself had gained the
status of a market town already in 1482. In 1846 Kreuzen became a spa place for cold-water cures. In 1973, the predicate 'Bad' was added to the town's name.
