Langenberg is situated at an elevation of 520 m about 1 km north of Raschau in the municipality Raschau-Markersbach in the district Erzgebirgskreis of southern Saxony.
Langenberg is a relativel young settlement. The village goes back to the hammer mill 'Förstelhammer' which processed iron that was mined in the area of Raschau. In 1619 the owner of the Förstelhammer purchased land from the community of Raschau in order to build twelve houses for blacksmiths and miners. The new settlement soon became known as Langenberg, apparently named for the long and steep ridge located between Langenberg from Raschau. At first the village was part of the parish of Raschau but over time developed into an independent community. In 1924 Langenberg was incorporated into the municipality of Raschau, which itself in 2008 was merged with the neighbouring municipality of Markersbach to the present municipality of Raschau-Markersbach.
