2720 Rosice 3940 Rosice Rosice is situated at an elevation of 326 m about 16 km west of the city centre of Brno in the Brno country district (okres Brno-venkov). The municipality has a population of about 5,700 (2012).

The oldest written document mentioning the place dates from 1259. Anthracite deposits were discovered in the second half of the 18th century. With the abolism of manorialism in 1848, Rosice became an independent municipality. The private railroad from Brno to osice was built in 1852–1855. In January 1856 the first trains transported coal from Rosice to Vienna, followed by the first passenger trains in July of the same year. With the opening of the first metal-working industry and further coal mines between 1859 and 1862, Rosice developed into a mining town. In 1907 Rosice obtained the official status of a town. In 1949 Rosice became a distict town. The district (okres) Rosice was, however, dissolved again in 1960.
