Mariánská is situated at an elevation of 786 m about 3 km west of Jáchymov in West Bohemia. Today it is part of the municipality of Jáchymov.
Mariánská (in German: Mariasorg) was first mentioned in 1465. The colony 'In der Sorg' was founded in the 15th century for miners working in he nearby silver mines of count Schlick. The local chapel attracted numerous pilgrims so that in 1699 a new, larger chapel was built. In 1754 the Capuchin monks founded a small monastery, which existed until 1945. After World War II the monastery fell into dereliction due to the expulsion of the German population and the installation of a uranium mine. The ruins were finally pulled down in the late 1960's. The image of the Virgin Mary was transferred to the parish church of Jáchymov.
In 1953–1966 a new pilgrimage site named Maria Sorg was created in Greifenstein (municipality of St. Andrä-Wördern)
near Klosterneuburg in Lower Austria.
