Lindau is situated at an elevation of 75 m in the foothills of the Fläming, between Zerbst and Loburg. Lindau has a population of about 1,200. On 1 January 2010 Lindau was incorporated into the municipality Zerbst / Anhalt.
The oldest traces of settlements date from th 9th and 10th century. Castle Lindau was first mentioned as Lindowe in a document of 1179. Lindau was chartered as a city in 1856.
