Žehušice is situated at an elevation of 438 m about 15 km east of the district town Kutná Hora. The municipality has a populaton of 780 (2017).
The earliest mention in a document dates from 1350. In 1540 Žehušice obtained the status of a market town, which, however, was lost in 1601. Since 1661 the estates were owned by the counts of Thun-Hohenstein. Town status was obtained again in 1865.

In 1825 Count Josef Matthias Thun-Hohenstein established the tradition of raising white deer in a 250 hectare English landscape park.
The animals, which are a world rarity, are one of very few herds in the whole world.
In 1949 only 30 animals were left out of once about 200. Today the size of the herd has grown to about 130 again. In addition,
a new, black, mutation of deers is also bred here.
