Tieringen is situated at an elevation of 811 m in the Schwäbische Alb region, at the watershed between the Schlichem (Rhine) and Bära (Danube). The origins of the village go back to the 4th century when it began to develop as an Alemannic settlement. The first written mention dates from 1275. In 1418 it was sold to the Counts of Württemberg. Since 1974 it is part of the municipality of Meßstetten.
