The oldest traces of settlements in this place date from Roman times. The oldest document mentioning Bittenfeld dates from 1215 and refers back to events of 1185. The historic town centre is almost completely preserved and boasts numerous buildings from between the 15th and 18th centuries. In 1975 Bittenfeld became part of the municipality of Waiblingen.
