Waldkatzenbach is situated at an elevation of 531 m in the heart of the Nature Reserve Neckartal-Odenwald at the foot of the Katzenbuckel (626 m), the highest elevation of the Odenwald mountains. "Katzenbach" was first mentioned in 1404. The name was changed to Waldkatzenbach around 1900 to distinguish it from a village of the same name (today Neckarkatzenbach) on the opposite side of the Neckar river valley. Today Waldkatzenbach (together with Mülben, Oberdielbach, Schollbrunn, Strümpfelbrunn and Wesbach) is part of the municipality of Waldbrunn/Odenwald. Since 1977 Waldbrunn is officially recognized as a climatic spa.
Karl von DRAIS, who in 1817 had constructed the "running machine", a forerunner of the bicycle, lived in Waldkatzenbach from 1833 until 1848.
