4872 Spreewald The Spreewald (Spree Woods) is certainly one of the most romantic regions of Germany's state of Brandenburg. Since 1990 the area where the river Spree branches into some 300 flow lines (the total length of all branches together is 970 km!) is protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (see also list of other UNESCO heritage sites).

The picture on glass no. 4872 [left] shows a view of Burgscher Kanal (Burg channel).

The forest inn Wotschofska [left] was built in 1894 on Wotschofska, one of the numerous islands in the river forest. The island could only be reached by boats until 1911 when a footpath was laid out. The inn is still operating today.
