Stráž nad Nežárkou is situated at an elevation of 450 m on the river Nežárka in South Bohemia. The origins of the town
go back to a castle that built in the second half of the 13th century to protect a ford across the river. The settlement soon developed
into a town which was first mentioned in 1350.
The picture on the glass no. 130 [left] shows the
town hall of Stráž nad Nežárkou.
The famous soprano Ema Destinnová (1878–1930) purchased the castle of Stráž nad Nežárkou and lived there from 1914 until her death in 1930.
Note that glasses no. 4539 [near right] and no. 4738 [far right] had been created using the
same transfer print image, but were labeled differently, giving the town's name in Czech (Stráž n. Než.)
and in German (Platz), respectively.
