Bezdružice is situated at an elevation of 576 m in the southern part of the Tepl highland in the Tachov district of West Bohemia. Mentioned first in 1227, it was elevated to the status of a town in 1459.
The castle [background left] was built in Late Baroque style in 1772–1776
near the remains of an earlier, medieval, stronghold of prior to 1330. At the beginning of the 19th century the castle became the seat of a district court.
