Bělá pod Bezdězem is situated at an elevation of 300 m in Central Bohemia about 15 km northwest of Mladá Boleslav. The settlement was founded in 1304 when a former settlement below Bezděz castle, about 6 km away, was moved to this new, more favourable, location. The new settlement was therefore originally named Nový Bezděz (Neu-Bösig). The status as a town was confirmed in 1337.
The picture on the glass shows the town hall of Bělá pod Bezdězem.
Bělá pod Bezdězem is the setting of Bedřich Smetana's opera Tajemství (The Secret).
