Zeillern is situated at an elevation of 348 m in the Mostviertel region of western Upper Austria. A document of 863 mentions possessions of the Bavarian monastery of Niederaltaich in this region at the Cidelari stream.
The late Gothic parish church Sankt Jakob der ältere (St. James the Greater) [centre]
was completed around 1500 and incorporates parts of an older Romanesque church. The interior decorations that were
added during the Baroque era were removed in 1896 and replaced by Neo-Gothic decorations.
