Bad Rothenfelde is situated at an elevation of 100 m on the southern slope of the Teutoburger Wald mountains in the south of the Osnabrück district. The first saline spring was discovered in 1724. At first, the spring were used only for the production of salt. The first use of the waters for therapeutic purposes is documented for 1811. The first spa buildings were opened in 1852/53. Further saline springs were found in 1894, 1926 and 1930/31. In 1905, the predicate 'Bad' (spa) was added to the name of the town. The formal recognition as a spa town followed in 1965.
The Kurhaus [left] was opened in 1909.
