Groß Germersleben is situated at an elevation of 83&nbs;m in the Magdeburger Börde region, about 32 south-southwest of the district town Haldensleben and about 21 km southwest of Magdeburg, the capital of Germany's state of Saxony-Anhalt. The village has a population of 415 (2025) and is part of the municipality of Oschersleben (Bode).

Germesleva was first mentioned in a written document dating from AD 937. Groß Germersleben was incorporated into the city of Oschersleben (Bode) on 1 January 2003.

The history of Groß Germersleben castle [left, no. 0000] goes back to a lowland castle that very likely had already existed when Germesleva was first mentione din 937. The first written record of the castle dates from 1286. At that time, it was owned by the Archbishops of Magdeburg. Up until the Late Middle Ages, the archbishops repeatedly used Germersleben castle as collateral. Between 1536 and 1601, it was remodeled into a palatial castle complex in the Renaissance style. Reconstructions and modernisations took place after 1830. During the World War II, part of the Magdeburg city library was stored here.
